On Saturday 29th August I’ll be leading a gentle circular ride to Bridgnorth and back.
We’ll start at BBD and head up Ironbridge road/Calcutts if we head over the footbridge depending on what people prefer – then onto the Bridgnorth road for approximately 2 miles before turning off to Willey where we’ll take the back way into Bridgnorth on a very quiet, scenic, lane.
We’ll stop at a cafe/pub in Bridgnorth (I’m open to suggestions here but I do recommend people bring a little cable lock for security) then head back along the 45 which is usually traffic free to BBD.
The whole route is just under 19 miles and once you’re up the gorge there’s very little in the way of taxing hills other than a few cheeky bits. If you don’t fancy doing the gorge hill straight off the cuff I’m happy to have a secondary meeting point at the King and Thai in Broseley at 09:45 but can you please let me know if you plan on meeting there instead so we’re not waiting around if no one is turning up!
This ride IS suitable for carbon road bikes but know that you’ll be encountering gravel and some small rocky and rutty bits on the 45. I’ve done it and found it to be fine just a bit bouncy in places. If you’d prefer to ride on a hybrid that’s no problem at all, a mountain bike is also fine so long as you can realistically keep up with a 10 – 12mph pace!
